Position Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be an integral part of the Netherlands medical affairs team, will be field-based, and mainly responsible for andexanet alfa. The MSL will focus on establishing and maintaining professional relationships with the local healthcare community and network communicating scientific, clinical and health economic information in a balanced and objective way and implementing medical field activities as defined in the medical pan.

The activities of the MSL include, but are not limited to, proactive (where appropriate based on local Codes and laws) and reactive external expert outreach, delivery of HCP education, external expert briefing, support at company symposia and medical standalone meetings, supporting Alexion’s investigator community, appropriately working with external experts seeking to support data generation incl. HEOR, supporting company sponsored non-registration trials and publication planning.


Establish and maintain professional relationships with key external experts and other HCPs
Maintain expert-level knowledge of Alexion products and relevant disease states and demonstrably communicate a current, compliant, and accurate scientific presentation to external audiences and individuals (such as hospital teams or individual HCPs)
Identify unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the medical community, and make an intelligent interpretation of key relevant scientific data and translate this information to meet educational and research needs
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in assessing education/research needs and develop education/research strategies to meet those needs
Provide medical and scientific support for internal and external collaborations, such as sales training, symposium-speaker briefing and other educational initiatives
Serve as a liaison to support external research proposals in accordance to internal rules and regulations
Represent Alexion at medical meetings, conferences, advisory boards, outreach meetings at key institutions and in interactions with thought leaders
Maintain knowledge of the hemostasis field, stay current on leading edge medicines and development efforts
Collaborate cross-functionally with peers and other company personnel in order to ensure corporate objectives and initiatives are achieved
Establish and maintain the CRM system with appropriate information of the own territory
Maintain and provide periodic written and/or verbal communication as required
Maintain clinical and technical expertise in the therapeutic area through review of the scientific literature and attendance at key scientific meetings
Maintain and operate assigned territory within established corporate policies, procedures, and standards at all times. Complies with applicable codes and laws in providing physicians with information, education, and literature
Prepare an MSL engagement & medical field activity plan, according to the country strategy and product phase (pre/post launch) and support the development of the [Country] Medical Plan, according to collected insights from the key stakeholders and in alignment with the cross-functional key account plan.
Lead scientific communication activities at local level by managing abstracts, posters, publications, and variety of other scientific materials in collaboration with office based medical personnel.
Assist in the identification of investigators and sites for company sponsored trials
Collaborate with Clinical Operations and Medical Advisor Clinical Trials (MACT), in clinical study feasibility, in discussions of patient’s inclusion strategies, clinical aspects of the trial, effective support study implementation and ensure seamless patient’s post clinical trial transition in related development programs
Participate in the development and implementation of local national registries and local evidence generation programs emphasizing in Real Word Evidence.
Support cross-functional teams to ensure patient-focused activities, including timely responses to specific internal and external requests to discuss specific situations
Serve as a resource to the medical affairs team for payer information, hospitals formulary inclusion, set up hospital’s treatment algorithm and health economic issues
Stay current of local laws and guidelines, codes of practices and Alexion policies relevant to Medical Affairs activity
Support HTA activities and reimbursement applications locally in close collaboration with market access

Advanced degree in medical science MD, PharmD or PhD
3 years of experience as field MSL is a plus
Solid background and experience with thrombosis//hemostasis/cardiology/ neurology, and understanding of drug development and life-cycle development of a product strongly preferred
Knowledge of clinical development (clinical trials, registries, RWE)
Knowledge of local pharmaceutical regulations
Solution oriented and ability to work in a complex environment
Excellent communication skills with proven ability to deliver impactful presentations
Good analytical skills as applied to medical, scientific, and technical information
Ability to motivate and influence others
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in local language
Should have ability to attend, understand and participate in pan-EU level meetings conducted in English
